Ida Bromley MBE FCSP
Chair of Trustees
Ida is a former chair of Council of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists and has been described as the doyenne of spinal injuries rehabilitation. Her specialty is neurology and she worked with Ludwig Guttman, (the neurologist who set up the spinal injuries unit at Stoke Mandeville) until 1977. She became interested in the Bobath Centre after attending lectures by Berta Bobath who later “kindly saw some patients of mine without charge and then asked me to join the Council!”
Ida currently serves on the boards of both the Children’s and Adult centres.
She is author of Tetraplegia and Paraplegia – A Guide for Physiotherapists (now in its 6th revised edition), which has become a standard textbook for physiotherapists.
Henry is the most recent Member of the Adult trustee board as well as being a regular service user to maintain his mobility and manage his cerebral palsy. Henry enjoyed a 20-year career with Ford Motor Company as an analyst programmer before becoming an independent IT Consultant specialising in web based technologies.
Malcolm, whose wife was treated at the Bobath Centre, has been a Member of the Adult trustee board since 1999. A book publisher by profession, specialising in international copyrights, he is now semi-retired.
Ann’s son has been treated by the Bobath Centre for over 30 years by many very skilled physiotherapists and occupational therapists.
Ann is currently employed by the Ministry of Justice in their tribunals system dealing with disability issues. Prior to that she was a trainer and adviser to parents and professionals at The Advisory Centre for Education, a national charity with a strong emphasis on the education of children with special educational needs.
